New Zealand’s Cabinet Is Gender-Equal for the First Time

A reshuffle saw Conservation Minister Willow-Jean Prime step into the cabinet so it now has 10 men and 10 women. New Zealand’s cabinet is a body of senior MPs who make key decisions on spending and policy. New Zealand already has more women MPs than men in its parliament. In October 2022, Soraya Peke-Mason tipped the balance when she was sworn in making it 60 women MPs to 59 men. In 2020, the country elected its most diverse parliament ever.
