Scientists are training this robot dog to walk on the Moon

The robot, called Spirit, has been on Mount Hood in Oregon where icy conditions resemble those on the Moon and Mars. Researchers are training Spirit to move between different terrains from hard or rocky surfaces, known as regolith to softer textures such as snow or sand. Spirit is part of a project called LASSIE, Legged Autonomous Surface Science in Analog Environments. It’s led by the University of Southern California, with funding from NASA and experts from several more US universities.
