The UK And The Netherlands Are Building Europe’s Biggest Cross-border Electricity Link

‘LionLink’ will connect the UK to a Dutch offshore wind farm. An undersea cable will transport up to 1.8GW of electricity between the two countries. That’s enough to power 2 of the UK’s biggest cities, Birmingham and Manchester. Interconnectors boost energy security by reducing the need to import fossil fuels This has become a priority for Europe since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, after which Russia cut its natural gas supplies to the Europe by 80%. Interconnectors also help to resolve one of the biggest challenges of renewable energy, intermittency.
