This CEO Took a 3-Month Sabbatical – and This Is How It Benefited Her Company

Sarah Kate Ellis leads GLAAD, the world’s largest LGBTQ media advocacy organization. When she took over in 2014, she instituted a sabbatical programme for all staff. Every 7 years, they can take 2-3 months off. "All of a sudden I was there for 7 years, which I never expected in a million years. And it was time for my sabbatical. And I thought, number one, it was so important that I follow what I say, right? If I'm putting this sabbatical out there, then I needed to show this behaviour myself to our staff. So I took a 3-month sabbatical and it was one of the best things I've ever done in my life." Ellis says her decision helped her mental and physical health.
