This Is a Low-Carbon Beverage Can

It’s made partly from recycled aluminium and partly from a new near zero-emission aluminium, manufactured using renewable energy. Making aluminium is hugely carbon-intensive, generating 3% of all human-made carbon emissions. First, aluminium ore is refined at high temperatures, then it’s smelted, or extracted, through electrolysis. Both use huge amounts of power, usually generated by fossil fuels. This low-carbon version uses renewable hydropower instead.
