This Organization Connects Young People Living With HIV

Zvandiri links HIV-positive children and adolescents with trained peer counsellors who are also living with HIV and understand their specific experiences. Zvandiri is a Shona word meaning ‘As I am’, or ‘This is me’. It started as a support group for 6 HIV-positive adolescents in Harare, Zimbabwe who wanted more support than just medicines and clinical check-ups. Since then, 11 governments have implemented the model, including Namibia and Ghana. Embedding 3,000 mentored peer counsellors in their health systems.
