This Robot Dog Is Helping Repair the Paris Metro

Inspectors deploy it underground where it squeezes into tunnels that are unsafe for humans, to scan for structural defects and assess what needs repairing. The robot stands at less than a metre tall and can climb stairs and navigate obstacles. It’s fitted with a 360° camera with infrared sensors so it can capture both thermal and visual data. Named Spot, it was designed by Boston Dynamics but the Paris metro inspectors have given it a French name, ‘Perceval’.
