This start-up stumbled on a clean way to make steel

Helios was looking for a way to make oxygen on the Moon because it’s hard to carry enough oxygen and rocket propellant from Earth for astronauts. So it devised a process to refine Moon rock dust using only sodium and electricity. Although the method produced oxygen, it also generated large amounts of iron, which is the main element in steel.
