How Unified Payment Interface (UPI) Is Making India Digital

The Unified Payments Interface (UPI) system is transforming digital payments in India. It allows for real-time, fee-free payments between banks. Since its creation in 2016, UPI has grown exponentially, hitting 8 billion transactions a month in December 2022. Now, India is sharing the Unified Payments Interface technology with other Commonwealth nations and connecting its own digital payment systems with countries like Singapore to lower the cost of cross-border payments. Today, this is the main way small businesses receive payments. The technology is open-source, so other countries could soon start using it.
