This Ukrainian Start-Up Makes Biodegradable Packaging Out of Mushrooms

It’s strong and light, just like polystyrene and 100% biodegradable, decomposing fully in just 30 days. S.Lab’s packaging contains 2 plant-based materials. Hemp fibres bound together by mycelium, the root-like network of threads that fungi grow underground. The world produces around 12 million tonnes of expanded polystyrene a year. It takes around 500 years to break down and occupies an estimated 30% of the world’s landfills. S.Lab’s solution is a fully sustainable alternative.
