Wind turbines are a key part of the energy transition, but they remain vulnerable to hurricane-force winds, which can snap their blades and buckle their towers.

Ming Yang Smart Energy Group has designed Ocean X, a lighter, twin-rotor model that has already withstood a once-in-a-generation typhoon.

The turbines turn to face the wind and, when gusts become too strong, shut themselves down to prevent damage, after harvesting maximum power.
