When Charlot Magayi’s daughter was two, she suffered severe burns on an open cooking stove.

The tragedy inspired Magayi to create Mukuru Clean Stoves, which solve three key problems: cooking safety, indoor air pollution and the cost of fuel. Her special smokeless briquettes - made from agricultural waste - even repel the mosquitoes that carry malaria.

Here, she talks us through the inspiration and effort behind her game-changing innovation.
