Autonomous Trucks: An Opportunity to Make Road Freight Safer, Cleaner and More Efficient

The logistics sector is currently experiencing a paradigm shift – autonomous trucking. The technology involved has the potential to significantly decrease the cost of transporting goods over land, a change that may underpin what turns out to be the most widespread impact of self-driving technologies on many people’s lives. This means that automating the movement of goods may have as deep an impact on our lives as automating how we move ourselves. This paper aims to explore the challenges related to autonomous trucking, and to summarize the potential benefits of automated logistics.
