Composer, Vocalist and Writer, Liu Sola Music Studio

Degree in Music Composition, Central Conservatory of Music, China. Composer, vocalist and fiction writer. 1988-2002, based in London, then New York. Founder, Liu Sola & Friends ensemble, bringing together the top Chinese instrumental soloists. Former: International Board Member, House of World Cultures, Germany; Co-Curator, UCHRI / SECT: Designing China. 2011-12, Curator, International New Music Cross Boundary Forum. 2012, Executive Artist Director, Beijing Modern Music Festival. Early works include: You Have no Choice (1985), a novella; In Search of King Singers (1986); Blue Sky Green Seas (1988) a rock opera based on the novella. Recent works include: a chamber opera, Fantasy of the Red Queen (2006); a chamber opera, The Afterlife of Li Jiantong (2009), commissioned by Barbican Centre London, Danish Royal Opera and Paul Hillier/Theatre of Voices. Author of: Chaos & All That (1991); Nv Zhen Tang/Small Tales of the Great Ji Family (2000); Mi Lian Zhou/Curses of Fascination (2011); best selling essays on music, art and women's issues in China, including Liu Sola on the Move (2001), Language, Sound, Picture (2002), and The Lipstick Talk (2009).
