The team needs to engineer up to 10,000 different parts just to design and test an F1 car’s front wing. Many of these parts are single-use. Once, they would have been made by hand but the McLaren team now has a special 3D-printing lab where more than 20 machines produce a range of components, from car body parts to parts for the wind tunnel used to test the cars.
