How to Deal With Loneliness? Do a Meaningful Activity

Researchers at Penn State ran a study on how to deal with loneliness in college students and older adults. One effective way of beating it, they found, is achieving ‘flow’. ‘Flow’ is when we become absorbed in a task, and time passes quickly. Activities that promote flow include playing an instrument, like painting or playing sports. The ideal flow-state activity requires some skill but is not too demanding. Loneliness is a growing public health issue. Globally, more people live alone than ever before, while 65% of young adults say the pandemic made them lonelier.
