New York has opened its first energy-efficient public school building

It has been built to Passive House standards, an exacting set of specifications that slash buildings’ energy consumption. The building’s skin is airtight to prevent heat loss it’s ventilated by a heat recovery system. This pulls in fresh air from outside and expels stale air from inside, using the heat from the latter to warm up the former
