Europe’s wind turbines generated a record 193 TWh in the last quarter of 2023. While the region’s coal plants generated 184 TWh. Wind power generation was 20% higher than the same period in 2022 despite a tough economic climate for Europe’s wind sector in 2023.

The costs of labour, materials and finance all rose last year. Still, experts say wind could increase its lead over coal in Europe this year thanks to an EU plan to supercharge the wind energy sector.
