The two countries are altering their border in the Alps, beneath the Matterhorn, one of Europe’s highest mountains. Some of the border follows glacial ridgelines or areas of perpetual snow. But as ice melts, these natural frontiers are shifting. It is thought that the border change will help each country to clarify responsibilities for the upkeep of natural areas.
