Leaders acknowledged that the crisis has not left Africa unaffected and discussed its effect on traditional drivers of growth such as the reduction and repatriation of foreign capital flows, threat of increased protectionism and fall in demand for the continent’s natural resources and commodities. Nevertheless, they emphasized that this transition is a unique opportunity for Africa to reposition itself within the global arena by leveraging its competitive advantages: its young workforce, substantial arable land and natural resources and an emerging middle class.
