We study the transcriptional regulation of genes that control the specification and subsequent development of blood and mesenchymal stem cell / progenitor cells. Our key research interest lies in identifying critical components of the haematopoietic and mesenchymal stem cell transcriptional network and their interactions with cell surface receptors and cell signalling pathways. Our goal is to determine how the disruption of the normal gene regulatory circuitry contributes to the pathogenesis of blood stem cell disorders such as leukaemia and the myelodysplastic syndromes. Our long term goal is to use this knowledge to identify and/or design better therapeutics.
