Maarten Wetselaar

Chief Executive Officer, Cepsa

Maarten Wetselaar joined Cepsa as Chief Executive Officer in January 2022 to deliver the company’s energy transition strategy, Positive Motion, which aims to make Cepsa a leader in sustainable mobility, biofuels and green hydrogen in Spain and Portugal.
Wetselaar started his career in energy at Shell in 1995 and held various financial, commercial and general management positions in Shell's Upstream, Downstream and Trading businesses in Europe, Brazil, Ghana, the Middle East and Russia. He served for six years on the Executive Committee as Director for Integrated Gas, Renewables and Energy Solutions before joining Cepsa.
Wetselaar holds a Master's degree in Economics from the University of Groningen and a postdoctoral degree in Controllers from VU University Amsterdam in the Netherlands. He sits on the Board of Trustees for The Princess of Asturias Foundation and Elcano Royal Institute, organisations that champion and contribute to scientific, cultural, humanistic, and innovative change at an international level.
