Paul Rawlinson

Global Chair, Baker McKenzie

Paul is the London-based Global Chair of Baker McKenzie. He joined the firm in 1986 focusing on intellectual property and made partner in 1996. He served as London Managing Partner from 2013 to 2016, when he was named the Firm's first British Chair. Educated in the UK and France, Paul has advised international clients with extensive IP portfolios on protection and enforcement, and has vast experience in trade mark, trade secret, copyright, design and technology issues. Paul led the Firm's Global Intellectual Property practice group from 2004 to 2010.

Since his appointment as Global Chair in October 2016 Paul has been very active with our people and clients visiting our offices in many parts of the world and talked to a range of key national and international media including CNBC (where he also co-hosted the influential Squawk Box show), the Financial Times, Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg and Reuters. In his new role Paul also attended the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos for the first time last January where he participated in a number of public and private sessions and met clients, NGOs and the media. He has also chaired and spoken at a number of Baker McKenzie external conferences and seminars on business and legal issues.

He is a board member for the Thomson Reuters Trust Law Foundation and is also an active supporter of World Business Council on Sustainable Development. Paul was recently ranked as the leading lawyer in the Male Champion of Women in Business in the UK by The Financial Times and HERoes, a gender-equality initiative and was the sole private sector representative at the United Nations launch event for "Champions of the Global Equal Pay Coalition", to talk about the role that professional services firms can play in bridging the gap in equal pay.
