Former Head of Technology Policy and Partnerships; Member of the Executive Committee,

Former Head of Technology Policy and Partnerships, World Economic Forum and serves on the leadership team of the Forum’s Centre for the Fourth Industrial Revolution in San Francisco. Formerly: U.S. Department of State's first-ever Representative to Silicon Valley and Senior Adviser for Technology and Innovation, working with the tech sector on tackling global challenges and leading State Department policy and strategy formulation on emerging technology; created and led the State Department's innovation lab in Washington DC; a senior adviser to then-Deputy Secretary of Defence Ashton Carter, Department of Defence; Senior Strategist, Office of the Secretary of Defence, where portfolios included climate change, Middle East strategy, innovation, and emerging technology; led the relaunch of the Center for Middle East Peace as Senior Vice-President; almost a decade as a journalist, including as Foreign Policy Correspondent, the Atlantic, Editor and Writer, the New Republic, and Middle East Correspondent, Newsweek, based in Egypt and Lebanon and covering most of the Arab world. Degree in Political Science, Yale University; degree in Arabic Language, American University in Cairo. Has taught courses on technology, design, policy and global challenges at Stanford, University of California, Berkeley, and the Rhode Island School of Design.
