BS (Hons) in Industrial and Labor Relations, Cornell University; PhD in Economics, Harvard University; 1989, NBER Olin Fellowship; 1992, Sloan Fellow in Economics. Former Chief Economist, US Department of Labor. In addition to current position also Research Associate, National Bureau of Economic Perspectives and of Economics Letters. Has published widely on social insurance, economics of education, wage determination, changes in the wage structure and employment demand.
