Jaan Tallinn

Founder, Centre for the Study of Existential Risk

Jaan Tallinn is a software engineer, technology investor and philanthropist best known as a founding engineer of Skype and Kazaa. He is a co-founder of the Centre for the Study of Existential Risk at the University of Cambridge and the Future of Life Institute, and has been a leading advocate for research on existential risks from advanced technologies, particularly artificial intelligence. An early investor in AI companies including DeepMind and Anthropic, he also supports a range of organizations focused on AI safety, global catastrophic risks and long-term governance challenges. He holds a degree in theoretical physics from the University of Tartu.
