Spent 27 years with The New York Times Co. 1981, began as reporter for the Times, covering local, state and national politics. Later, Metro Editor, Washington Bureau Chief and Deputy Managing Editor. Pioneer in the Times' television and online operations. Former Executive Editor, International Herald Tribune. 2008, Former Vice-President and Senior Managing Editor, The Associated Press. Currently Senior Vice President of News and Editorial Director, National Public Radio. Co-Author, The Genius of America: How the Constitution Saved our Country and Why it Can Again (2007).
