Wissam Joubran

Composer, Performer, Luthier, Le Trio Joubran

Wissam Joubran was born in Nazareth, Galilea, in 1983 to a family with a rich artistic heritage. Joubran encountered early on the music and craftsmanship of the Luth (‘oud). At six, he made his first instrument. This particular relationship with the oud continued to deepen and to grow richer. Joubran was driven early on by a belief that his work helped foster pathways for a synergy between the East and the West, and he tries to make both experiences converge towards a single musical universe. He was the first Arab student to attend the prestigious Antonio Stradivari conservatory, renowned for the fabrication of string instruments (violins in particular). In 2003, he received the award of best artisan luthier. He has performed at more than 1,200 concerts as part of the “Trio Joubran,” including at Carnegie Hall and Olympia. Joubran is also the founder of the International Oud Association.
