Luis Alberto Moreno

Moreno has been president of the Inter-American Development Bank since 2005. He is also a member of the Forum’s Foundation Board. Between 1998 and 2005 he was Colombia’s ambassador to the United States. His tenure saw a strengthening of relations between Bogota and Washington, culminating in bipartisan US Congressional support for a $4 billion package of assistance programmes for Colombia. Before becoming an ambassador, Moreno worked in private equity in Colombia and as a Senior Adviser to the Luis Carlos Sarmiento Organization, Colombia’s largest banking group. Between 1991 and 1994, he held a number of senior positions in the Colombian government, beginning with the presidency of the Instituto de Fomento Industrial, the Colombian state industrial finance corporation, and later as minister of economic development. From 1982 to 1990, Moreno produced a broadcast news programme in Colombia, earning a Nieman Fellowship from Harvard University for his contribution to the field of journalism
