Albania is using thermal drones to fight wildfires

This video is part of: Centre for Nature and Climate

Wildfires are raging in Albania’s mountainous Dukat region. The terrain here is steep and inaccessible to vehicles and ground crews - but that’s not a problem for drones. These are equipped with thermal imaging cameras that can tell helicopter firefighters exactly where to focus their efforts in real-time. Around the world, climate change is making wildfires more frequent and more severe. Today they destroy more tropical forests than either logging or agriculture. The World Economic Forum’s Global Wildfire Leadership Network aims to drive collective action and investment in wildfire solutions – and to shift the focus from crisis response to long-term resilience. The network is an initiative under 1t.org, a platform to conserve, restore and grow a trillion trees by 2030.
