Students and Indigenous people in Peru are teaming up to save vulnerable turtles

They have released over 160 yellow spotted river turtle hatchlings into the wild to help reverse a dramatic decline in this species’ population caused by human hunters and natural predators. The turtle’s Peruvian name is taricaya. It’s now listed as vulnerable in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.
