Yuma Sumi

Global Shaper, Fukuoka Hub, World Economic Forum

Professional ballet dancer and full-stack software developer currently working at Woven Planet Holdings, a subsidiary of Toyota, in Japan.

As a ballet dancer, Yuma was working at State Ballet of Georgia, the professional ballet company in Tbilisi, Georgia, under the artistic direction of the internationally acclaimed dancer Nina Ananiashvili, after a couple of years of studying classical ballet and contemporary dance in Portugal and Netherlands. Having toured all over the world including Bolshoi theater in Moscow, he returned to Japan, with the idea of supporting artists and athletes by providing skills needed in various industries, which is why Yuma decided to become a software engineer from no coding experience.

After a year of studying at Code Chrysalis Japan and the following working years as software developer, Yuma has accomplished to create many online services ​from scratch at several startups in Tokyo and Fukuoka. In 2020, he was one of the few presenters at SF Pitch Night 2020, the pitch competition in San Francisco.

Yuma was also a member of ​NPO Total Health Care for Artists Japan, collaborating with medical experts to support dancers.
