Brett McDowell

Chair and President, Hedera

Brett McDowell brings over 20 years of ICT industry coalition leadership experience to his role as Chair & President of Hedera. He has had founding executive roles at the Kantara Initiative (an identity assurance standards-setting and certification body), IDESG (Identity Ecosystem Steering Group, a public-private consortium formed to implement President Obama's National Strategy for Trusted Identities in Cyberspace), (an anti-phishing technology standards-setting workgroup), and Fast IDentity Online Alliance (the cryptographic authentication standards-setting body responsible for PassKeys). Mr. McDowell also has extensive multi-stakeholder governance experience, having served on the board or advisory board of MAAWG (Messaging Anti-Abuse Working Group), NCSA (National Cyber Security Alliance),, and PCI SSC (Payment Card Industry Security Standards Council), among other industry coalitions. Brett is a former fellow at the UMASS Center for Digital Government, a former member of the US Federal Reserve Bank's Mobile Payments Industry Working Group, and a recipient of the 2019 Top 50 Tech Leaders award from InterCon.
