Carlos Moedas

  Carlos Moedas is European Commissioner for Research, Science and Innovation. Previously, he was Secretary of State to the Prime Minister of Portugal, in charge of the Special Unit (ESAME) that monitors, on behalf of the Prime Minister, the implementation of Portugal’s Economic and Financial Assistance Programme, in liaison with the line Ministers and the International Monetary Fund, European Central Bank and European Commission. Prior to his nomination Mr Moedas was a senior economic adviser to Pedro Passos Coelho, the then leader of the opposition. Previous appointments include roles for the Suez Group, Goldman Sachs, he was Managing Director of Aguirre Newman and a member of the Executive Board of the Holding Company in Spain. In 2008 Mr Moedas created his first business venture, Crimson Investment Management.
