Has served as Principal Economist at the EBRD and Director of Programmes at the OECD Development Centre. Oxford University Professor of Globalisation and Development, Director of the Oxford Martin Programme on Technological and Economic Change and founding Director of the Oxford Martin School. Has been a non-executive director on numerous boards; Senior Independent Director, CDC. Trustee, Comic Relief. Chair, CORE-Econ initiative to modernize the teaching of economics.
