Julian is the Director General, Energy Transformation and Clean Growth at the Department of Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy with responsibilities including leading on work to cut carbon emissions while seizing the economic opportunities of clean growth, to promote energy efficiency and help achieve secure and affordable decarbonisation. It also works to tackle fuel poverty and leads the programme for the energy industry to roll out smart meters to homes and small businesses.

Previously Director in Bain & Company’s office, London. Global Head of Bain’s Utilities & Alternative Energy Practice and head of UK Post Merger Integration practice. Experience includes strategy development and transformation for major global gas & power utility, incl transformation of existing business units and prioritisation of adjacency growth options, new service models. Prior to Bain, with ICI and Exxon as a Chemical Engineer. He has been a seed investor and Board adviser to a range of technology companies in sectors ranging from business training simulations, travel portals, connected homes hubs to intelligent water valves. MA and M.Eng. in Chemical Engineering, Cambridge University. MBA with distinction, Wharton.
