Roland Robertson is Distinguished Service Professor Emeritus, University of Pittsburgh and Emeritus Professor of Sociology and Global Society, University of Aberdeen. He began his academic career at the University of Leeds, and subsequently held appointments at the University of Essex, the University of Pittsburgh and the University of York (where he was Head of the Department of Sociology from 1970 to 1974). He returned to Pittsburgh in 1974 and remained there until his move to Aberdeen in 1999.
