Sadiq Khan was elected Mayor of London in May 2016 winning the largest personal mandate in the history of British politics and securing the support of 1.3 million Londoners. He was re-elected as Mayor in 2021 and in 2024 making history being the first London mayor to win a third term. His mission is to continue building a better London for everyone—a city that is fairer, safer, greener, more prosperous and more affordable for all.

Before this, Sadiq had a distinguished Parliamentary career as the Member of Parliament for Tooting, a constituency in south London. He served as a Minister in both the Department for Communities and Local Government and the Department for Transport under Prime Minister Gordon Brown, becoming the first Muslim to attend Cabinet. He later served as the Shadow Secretary of State for Justice and the Shadow Minister for London, leading the London Labour Party's election campaign into the 2015 General Election.

Sadiq was born and raised in London after his parents moved to the UK from Pakistan in the 1960s. His father worked as a bus driver for 25 years, his mother sewed clothes for a living and the family lived on a council estate in Tooting. Before entering politics and public service, Sadiq studied law at university and went on to work as a respected human rights lawyer for more than 10 years, helping to run a successful firm of 50 employees. Sadiq was a councillor in the London Borough of Wandsworth from 1994 to 2006. He continues to live in Tooting with his wife and two daughters.

Since being in office Sadiq has prioritised the economic well-being of Londoners and has championed London as the place to grow business, visit and study internationally. Sadiq has never stopped banging the drum for London as the best place in the world to invest, start and scale-up a business.
