Aravind Eye Care System (AECS)

Aravind Eye Care System built a sustainable eye care delivery system in which over 60% of its patients receive care for free or at a very steeply subsidized rate. This model one of the largest and most productive eye care facilities in the world. Since its inception in 1976, Aravind has performed over 6.8 million eye surgeries and handled over 58 million outpatient visits, meaning 460,000 surgeries and over 4 million outpatient visits yearly. Its patient care network now includes 12 hospitals, six community eye clinics and 66 (primary eye care) vision centres, all in the state of Tamil Nadu.
