The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) is a multidisciplinary, multilocational R&D organization comprising 38 research laboratories spread throughout the country. It is part of the National Innovation System (NIS) built over the last six decades. The laboratories of CSIR straddle a wide range of science and technology areas in the civilian sector. These include biotechnology, chemical sciences and technology, new drug discovery, traditional medicinal systems, and genomics.
