Isa Wali Empowerment Initiative

Isa Wali Empowerment Initiative (IWEI) is a non-governmental and non-profit organization founded by Maryam Uwais in memory of her late father, Isa Wali. IWEI’s mandate is to promote gender equity and champion the causes of women, children, youth and other vulnerable groups in Kano and its environs. Its operations are driven by the vision of empowering communities with social justice for young women and girls. To achieve its goals, it undertakes comprehensive efforts that challenge harmful norms, promote gender equality, strengthen legal protection, improve access to education and enhance economic empowerment. It strives to create a society that values and respects the rights and well-being of women and girls.
