Lifeline Energy, a non-profit social enterprise, designs, manufactures and distributes solar and wind-up MP3 players and radios for mass education initiatives, community listening projects and emergency response. Since its inception in 1999, it has manufactured 600,000 products providing sustainable listening access to 20 million listeners. Lifeline works with audio content partners and provides distribution training and capacity building support for local NGOs. It works across all major development sectors, mainly in sub-Saharan Africa, and focuses on nomadic and pastoral groups, smallholder farmers, school children, displaced populations and other groups with low literacy levels. In humanitarian emergencies, Lifeline operates globally.
