Established in 1899, ROHTO Pharmaceutical Co. is the largest company in Japan's OTC drugs market. It is a leader in the eye drops market, commanding a 40% share. Overseas expansion picked up in 1988 with the acquisition of Mentholatum in the US, and 40% of total sales now come from overseas. Its skincare and cosmetics businesses have grown rapidly in recent years.
