Safaricom

Safaricom is a mobile telephone operator in Kenya. It was formed in 1997 as a subsidiary of Telkom Kenya and, in 2000, Vodafone acquired a 40% stake and management responsibility for the company. In June 2008, the government concluded the sale of 25% of its 60% holding to the public. It has a subscriber base of 23 million, over 4,000 employees and is the first mobile network in Kenya licensed to roll out a 3G and 4G network.
