Over 30% of fresh produce is lost after harvest, which has a large impact on smallholder farmer incomes. By providing cold storage on a pay-as-you-store model SokoFresh enables the adoption of cold storage without any upfront investment by farmers, aggregators and buyers. Coupling it with market linkage aggregates demand for produce and ensures fair value distribution in value chains. It is starting in the mango, avocado and french bean value chains but knows that the cold storage deficit is a reality in other value chains (horticulture, fish, dairy, etc.) and countries in sub-Saharan Africa.
