HeroRAT was founded in 1998 in response to a global demand for innovative landmine detection technologies. It develops, deploys and disseminates rat detection technology for humanitarian detection applications such as detecting landmines and tuberculosis. It is a Belgian registered NGO and has become a centre of expertise in animal training in the African Great Lakes region.
