She was presented with the Dean's Excellence Scholarship Award and the Nottingham Advantage Award during her undergraduate studies. She was also a member of the PR and marketing team of the student magazine, IGNITE.
Upon her return in 2019, she started working at Air Seychelles to explore the financial and accounting areas within the airline industry. In her current role as Accounts Receivable & Miscellaneous Billings Manager, she is working on implementing controls and processes and effectively using existing systems to reduce leakages and improve efficiency. She acknowledges the importance of leading sustained financial health of the airline for the country's benefit. She hopes to utilize her skills and collaborate with like-minded people to lead the airline industry towards a more sustainable future.
Growing up in both Seychelles and India, Abirami had the experience of interacting with people of different cultures, socio-economic backgrounds, and faiths. Her time in India enabled her to volunteer for the National Cadet Corps (NCC), the youth wing of armed forces in India. As an NCC cadet, she was provided with basic military training and participated in social service and community development activities. She attended a ten-day-long annual NCC training camp to foster her skills in army drill, weapon firing, and physical fitness.
She also worked as a teacher at Anse Boileau Secondary School on a 6-month work attachment program, planning and delivering mathematics lessons and assisting in organizing the school's annual mathematics quiz competition.
Apart from sustainable economic growth, she hopes to tackle other pressing issues through her involvement with the Global Shapers Victoria Hub.
