Amar Marouf

Global Shaper, Ottawa Hub

Amar Marouf is an Amazigh-Canadian strategist and author. He is a strategic analyst in international business, specialising in growth and long-term planning. Amar has led international growth across public and private sectors including his tenure in Foreign Mission Operations at Global Affairs Canada and International Business Development, Growth and Marketing at Gowling WLG LLP.

A former entrepreneur with two successful exits, his entrepreneurial track record reflects a passion for building ventures that treat sustainability as a competitive advantage and social impact as a design constraint. He previously founded and exited Aleteo, an ESG-focused advisory that delivered over 60 projects, mobilized more than $2M in capital, and supported initiatives representing over $10M in project revenue before its acquisition in 2022. Prior to his advisory work, he founded and exited Charles Amar, a Canadian carbon-zero circular slow fashion brand that designed and produced small-batch collections using recycled and reclaimed materials.

Marouf has represented Canadian entrepreneurs at international forums including the G20, G7, and the Global Entrepreneurship Congress, advocating to translate policy into tangible pathways for inclusive entrepreneurship and human-centred growth.

In 2021, his book of poems Alleviate, published in five languages, sold out in 13 countries. The collection explores the human condition, embodying his conviction that empathy and narrative are critical to designing inclusive systems and sustainable growth.

He is the former curator of two art galleries in Canada’s capital spotlighting Indigenous and women’s art. His curatorial work reflects a belief that culture is infrastructure for identity and social cohesion.

Amar is also a classically trained cellist and opera singer and the first alumnus to serve on the Board of Directors of OrKidstra, a social development charity that empowers youth from equity-deserving communities through music education.

In 2025, he was selected to the inaugural Future 50 Fellowship of the World Economic Forum’s Global Foresight Network with the Global Shapers Community. Amar is a former curator of the Ottawa Hub, and has led civic engagement projects across Canada to protect democracy and human rights, including lowering barriers for newcomer and Indigenous peoples.

Amar is a graduate of the College of Global and International Studies in Global Law and Social Justice from Carleton University, concentrating on international cooperation and global economic systems. He concurrently led humanitarian fundraising campaigns across Latin America—forging an early link between theoretical frameworks and tangible, cross-border impact.

His fluency in five languages informs and amplifies his work, enabling him as a frequent keynote speaker to deconstruct complex issues of entrepreneurship, growth, social access and policy for international audiences.

Through strategic advisory, cultural advocacy, and entrepreneurial practice, he is now focused on designing and leading the next generation of ventures and initiatives for lasting economic and cultural impact.
