On February 1 2015, Andreas Renschler joined Volkswagen. He is member of the board of management of Volkswagen AG responsible for Commercial Vehicle Group as well as head of Volkswagen Truck & Bus GmbH, a holding company bundling the three medium- and heavy duty truck brands MAN, Scania and Volkswagen in Latin America. Renschler was born on March 29 1958, in Stuttgart, Germany. After completing a banking apprenticeship, he studied industrial engineering and operations research. After graduation, Renschler studied business management, which he completed in 1987. Renschler started his professional career in 1988 at Daimler-Benz AG. After having worked as leader of a project team handling corporate planning and as assistant of the chairman of the board of management, he got the opportunity to lead the project of the M-class, including the planning and implementation of the company’s first US plant in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Until 1998 Renschler was CEO of Mercedes-Benz U.S.I.,Tuscaloosa, USA. After a short time as Senior Vice President of DaimlerChrysler AG responsible for personnel development, Renschler became chairman of the board of management of smart GmbH where he built up the smart product family and led the global expansion of the brand. In 2004, Andreas Renschler was appointed as member of the board of management of Daimler AG, responsible for Daimler Trucks and Daimler Buses. During this time he implemented the Global Excellence Program and led the Commercial Vehicles unit to the world’s biggest and most successful manufacturer of trucks. He implemented sustainable synergies throughout the brands (Mercedes-Benz, Freightliner, Western Start, and Mitsubishi Fuso) and enforced the growth in the BRIC markets. In India, a new brand was established, BharatBenz, in order to guarantee a most possible regional power. In 2013, Andreas Renschler took over responsibility for productio n and procurement, cars & Mercedes vans until January 2014.
