After many years of solid risk management experience in investment, corporate and retail banking, After establishing Risk Insights (Pty) Ltd to provide risk consulting to various institutions in Southern Africa and worldwide. Anushka Bogdanov has 29 years of international risk management experience. Bogdanov has worked in various senior risk management positions in the banking sector, development financial institutions (DFIs) and rating agencies and have covered credit assessment of large corporates/ banks/ development financial institutions/ multinationals/ municipalities, setting credit strategy and risk appetite, rating banks, and various financial instruments, building Basel compliance models. Two years in the making, the product ESG GPS has been developed by Risk Insights. The tool rates all companies on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange, and provides an ESG rating on a score of 1-4 – four meaning a strong ESG rating. The tool is aimed principally at asset managers, development-finance institutions, banks, and listed companies, all of whom need to augment ongoing valuations and expected losses. The model also assists regulators with an ongoing understanding of crucial ESG factors that drive responsible governance and systemic risk. The Risk Insights ESG model was conceptualised and developed by the founder Dr Bogdanov together with a team of young data scientists. This model scales up to the rest of the world enabling the contribution towards SDG goals to be more transparent thereby influencing policy makers and capital markets.
